Berber Carpet

There are many different types of carpets that people use in their homes. Each of these carpets is chosen to provide homeowners with comfortable and elegant living spaces. One of the favorites that you can find in carpet choices is that of a Berber carpet. This carpet is one that many people know of.

The original Berber carpet designs were muted as the fabric which was used to make these carpets was hand spun natural fibers. The techniques for weaving this carpet came from the Berber tribes of northern Africa. Once the style and looks of these carpets began making their way around the world another material was sought to make these carpets.

The next material which was chosen to make a Berber carpet is that of wool. This material was originally chosen as the look of the wool was very similar to that of the natural hand spun fibers. Since the wool of this period was monotone you could only find Berber carpets which came in this single coloring.

As a result of the Berber style carpets being made from wool you were given the idea that a Berber carpet is a high maintenance carpet. Today this tag has been largely removed because of the new materials which are used. The main material that you will find in the construction of a Berber carpet is that of olefin carpet fibers.

This fiber is made so that it is very strong and durable. As a result the manufacturers have been able to provide this carpet type with new colors and patterns. This new look allows customers of a Berber carpet to choose the carpet which will suit their home and one that is still affordable.

Even though technology has provided us with olefin carpet fibers to use in making a Berber carpet, there are still concerns about the care which needs to be taken with these carpets. The main thing to remember is to make sure that any dirt, spills and stains don’t have a chance to become lodged into the carpet fibers themselves.

The longer these stains are allowed to stay in your Berber carpet the harder you will need to work to get them out. In some cases you may even have to replace your carpet as the damage is too severe.

For this reason if you are thinking about buying a Berber carpet you may want to see what the manufacturers have to say about the care of these wonderful looking carpets which are reminiscent of the original Berber tribe carpets.
